Camp Chateaugay is located along the north short of one of the beautiful Adirondake Lakes. The camp’s lakefront is a quarter mile long. And for another mile there is more adventerous shoreline.
There are activities for all ages. They offer such things as mountain biking, horseback riding, water skiing, martial arts, woodworking and so much more. Most first time campers have no experience in these things. With the help and guidance of counselors and support from fellow campers, children are able to perform the tasks, successfully. This really helps them feel good about themselves,thereby helping them to resist temptations, such as drugs and alcohol.
“The Barn” is a 12,000 sq. ft. gymnasium. It has six basketball hoops, indoor vollyball court and a roller hocky rink! There’s also an indoor rock climbing wall for inclement weather. This is an incredible facility.
First time campers are of utmost importance. As soon as they get to camp, they each get a buddy. The Northern Lights campers are one of the groups. They are the second oldest of all the kids. They each take a young camper or a first- timer, under their wing. Then each one has a big brother or sister to go to when they need any kind of help. Taking care of the little people are the Northern Lights biggest source of pride.
The counselors atAdirondack Camp are specialists in the field in which they teach and play. They return year after year. The staff is trained by experts in many fields. For instance, they are advised by Joel Haber, The Nationally Known Bully Coach. He is a clinical psycologist with 20 years experience, concentrating on bullying. They also have training from Susan Fee, counselor, coach and author. She is a licensed mental health trainer and founder of Circle of Friends. Needless to say, they are trained in many things for this position.Mealtimes are for bonding and enjoying delicious, nutritional food. There are many options to pick from, salad bars, sandwich bars, fruit, and a special snack bar for in between meals. The infirmary is called The Pill Box. It’s home to a staff of nurses and a resident doctor. So there is always medical help, when needed.
The cabins are beautiful! They have screened windows, electricity, smoke detectors, and full bathrooms. The camp has a high level safety procedure. The children are always supervised.
Camp Chateaugay is a place for adventures. They engage in physical activities in a natural setting. Camp helps kids enhance their self-esteem and develop a good understanding of people.
